Annie Gosfield

  • Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA), 1960
  • Composer

Hailed as “a star of the downtown scene” by the New Yorker magazine, composer Annie Gosfield lives and works in New York City. Her music often explores the inherent beauty of non-musical sounds, and is inspired by diverse sources such as machines, destroyed pianos, warped 78 records, and detuned radios. Annie divides her time between composing for some of new music’s finest ensembles and soloists and performing on piano and sampler with her own group. Her music has been performed internationally at festivals including Warsaw Autumn, Bang on a Can Marathon, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, the Adelaide Festival, the Venice Biennial. Gosfield held the Darius Milhaud chair of Composition at Mills College, was a visiting lecturer at Princeton University, and composer in residence at the Eastman School and CalArts.
