About this seriet

The production company Productions SuperMusique (PSM) has been invited to present a SuperMusique / Ambiances Magnétiques Showcase in New York City. The invite came from musician Fred Frith, appointed curator of the venue The Stone for the month of May 2007. This is a unique opportunity to perform at one of the most important avant-garde music venues in New York. The Stone is managed by John Zorn and it is the place where all the biggest names in global avant-garde music currently play.

The SuperMusique / Ambiances Magnétiques showcase will consist of 7 different concert programs. PSM has put together a team of 8 musicians representing the Quebecker “musique actuelle” (creative music) scene. Performers, improvisers and composers, either well-established or up-and-coming, these versatile musicians can, either as an ensemble or in smaller groupings, deliver the various colours found in Quebecker creative music and released by the Ambiances Magnétiques label.

Ambiances Magnétiques is an independant label created in 1983 by Montréal musicians: Michel F Côté, Jean Derome, André Duchesne, Joane Hétu, Diane Labrosse, Robert Marcel Lepage, René Lussier, Danielle Palardy Roger and Martin Tétreault. The idea of a collective was brought about by the need to create quality recordings of their musical material. Recordings that reflect the creative process and aesthetic values of the artists themselves. Ambiances Magnétiques seeks to give greater access to a music that is innovative, audacious, and authentic.
