Installation/performance by Diane Labrosse FeaturingPerforming Dates
About this eventDiane Labrosse is a composer, virtuoso sampling artist, explorer of short-lived lists and gifted displayer of audio states of mind. She is particularly found of collections, a theme that allows her to stretch out in variations: after Petit traité de Sagesse pratique and Petit bestiaire, which respectively featured proverbs and animals, here she focuses on the last breath of obsolete tools, so we can hear their final utterances. A dilettante anthropologist searching for ancient sonic traces - those left by these endangered species, Diane Labrosse will be studying appliances on the brink of extinction: percolator, typewriter, rotating-dial telephone, spring-winded alarm clock, cassette answering machine, black & white television, etc. In her own words, “this installation/performance is not about developing a nostalgic discourse. The idea, instead, is to use these objects as sound generators. They will be manipulated, mechanized, amplified, spatialized, contextualized, used as musical instruments, grouped together as a family and featured in solo spots.” The event will take place in two spaces: a gallery space and a performance space. Each night, the audience will be free to wander through the gallery space where mechanized and interactive objects will be displayed in installation mode. Then, the audience will be invited to the performance space, where they will follow an itinerary consisting of eight stations/performances, all manned by the “four star” team revolving around Labrosse: on objects & instruments - Michel F Côté,
Diane Labrosse, Pierre Tanguay,
Martin Tétreault And if you want a preview, something to whet your appetite, we can let you know, for an aperitif, that Pierre Tanguay will be facing the polyrhythmics of 50 wall clocks and alarm clocks, while Martin Tétreault will be dishing it out with a dozen turntables. Otherwise, rest assured that there is a good side to extinction. This springtime audio bazaar can only welcome a limited audience, so Diane Labrosse suggests that you get your tickets in advance! Sound advice, of course… Productions SuperMusique and Diane Labrosse would like to thank the CALQ, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts de Montréal, and the SOCAN Foundation.
