About this eventThis meeting with Joëlle Léandre has been on Danielle Palardy Roger’s wish list for a while. The project took shape following a meeting in Victoriaville the year before: a solo each, then a Palardy Roger/Léandre duo, and finally, a doublebass quartet featuring musicians with widely different background, but sharing a taste for adventure and improvisation. A doublebass quartet for which Danielle Palardy Roger wanted to compose. She also commissioned works from René Lussier, Pierre Cartier and Joëlle Léandre. Voyage en aphasie mineureDanielle Palardy Roger plays percussion and recites in this suite of texts and games exploring the various timbres and languages of the acoustic drum set. This project about language and memory dysfunctionalities is based on the automatisms and onomatopoeia aphasics use to maintain communication with other people. La revanche des contrebasses (Doublebasses’ Revenge)The program:
The doublebass takes center stage! Four bassists performing four brand new works showcasing the unbelievable musical possibilities of the instrument. Often perceived as a second-rate instrument in the classical orchestra, the doublebass has found unexpected glory in jazz music, becoming a sonic giant, an incredibly moving voice whose power and precision in the low range is matched only by the fragility and uncertainty of its high range. À voix basse ou les méandres de LéandreThe programme:
À voix basse ou les méandres de Léandre showcases the fabulous Joëlle Léandre, in love with her doublebass, which she caresses, whips, and treats nicely and less nicely. It is also Léandre the explorer of new soundfields, the plougher of unsung songs, the iconoclastic virtuoso. People from the Land of Files would like to know if À voix basse ou les méandres de Léandre is jazz music, classical music or contemporary music… Simply and radically put, it is a passion for the doublebass. A meeting between Joëlle Léandre and Danielle Palardy RogerRounding up this event is a meeting between two improvisers, each with over twenty years of experience earned carrying cumbersome instruments - bass and drums - on their back. An evening of improvised music unfolding like a hyphen between intensity and fragility, a round trip from depth to subtleness. |
