About this event

Two saxophones, two voices; two gargoyles, two satyrs; two forces of nature that agitate, whistle, squeak, scrape, blow, and bite, transforming music into a secular incantation and a banquet of sound. Nous perçons les oreilles leads these two musicians to those high, dry musical plains where free improvisation is released from all connection with the worlds of jazz and rock. The duo of Jean Derome, on saxophone and a load of small instruments, and Joane Hétu, on saxophone as well, but on a saxophone that is used as an extension of the voice, delivers improvisations that are both startling and fascinating. With the stated aim of destabilizing the listener, Nous perçons les oreilles makes humorous references both to jewelry stores’ ads and to the effect that this music can have on the unprepared.
