Recorder player and composer Terri Hron comfortably migrates from performance to composition, exploring acoustic and electronic sounds in both written and improvised situations. As a performer, her particular way of playing her instruments and working with technology inspires others to write for her. Her performance groups include the multi-disciplinary SpaceMelt with Sam Davidson and Michael Markowsky, the “early & new” consort Forbidden Fruit, duo Rara Avis (with Robbert van Hulzenwith and duo with Jorrit Dijkstra. Among her compositions are pieces written for the Pacific Baroque Orchestra (Vancouver), Trio Scordatura (Amsterdam), pianist Luciane Cardassi (Banff), and David Kweksilber Big Band (Amsterdam). Terri Hron’s interest in working with live electronics in multichannel situations has led her to a research collaboration with Notam, the Norwegian Center for Technology and Music in Art. Together they are working on a controller to direct all kinds of aspects of performance, from effects to spatialization. Terri Hron is the recipient of numerous awards, prizes and residencies. She is a graduate of the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music (2004) and will be starting her Doctorate in Composition at the Université de Montréal in Fall 2010.
